The VHS-D2 is a Croatian assault rifle. It is a significantly improved version of the previous VHS-D. It was designed and is manufactured by the HS Produkt company. This weapon was first publicly revealed in 2013. Some sources report that it has been adopted by Croatian armed forces, however this information has not been confirmed. This weapon is being proposed for various export customers. It has been exported to Iraq and possibly some other countries.
The VHS-D2 is a gas operated weapon with a bullpup layout. It is chambered for a standard NATO 5.56x45 mm ammunition. Weapon's housing is made of impact resistant polymer.
This weapon has completely ambidextrous handling. A fire mode selector is ambidextrous and located above the pistol grip. It has setting for "safe", "semi-auto" and "full-auto". Cocking handle is also ambidextrous, so the weapon can be cocked with either hand. Also the VHS-D2 has selectable left or right side cartridge ejection. Ejection window is on both side
